Southeast Fresno Churches Support Little League

Posted on Tuesday, July 28, 2009 @ 18:43:13 MDT

Around $9,000 worth of funding stood between Little League this summer in South and Central Fresno and the kids who would normally play in the Mosqueda Little League.

Pastor Eli Loera, one of the Fresno/Clovis Pastors Cluster leaders, brought it up to Pastors during a meeting, asking them what they thought about sponsoring a team. That would include raising money and providing 2 coaches.

Pastor Keith was in that meeting. He and the other pastors there said, "YES!"

8 Churches, 1 non profit organization (Reading and Beyond) and the Riverpark Little League made it happen. Parks & Recreation was out of money from budget cuts.

Pastor Keith explained, "In such unstable economic times, we are glad to be a part of doing something positive for the families in our neighborhood. It is critical to southeast Fresno young people that Little League baseball will continue."

This effort put 20 teams, 140 young people, on the ball fields learning teamwork, sportsmanship, and observing role models in our neighborhood.

Read all about it in an article in the Fresno Bee last week - and be sure to ask Pastor Keith to show you the plaque that Mayor Ashley Swearengin and Councilman Mike Dages presented to us for stepping up to this task.
