Hey kids, have you heard the news? People are flocking to Nazareth and you are invited! Come with us to “Home Town Nazareth” and see what it was like when Jesus was a kid.
Vacation Bible School is open to kids who are entering kindergarten this fall up to the fifth grade. It’s $5.00 per child and that includes dinner. Vacation Bible School will be held at St. Mary’s Anglican Church which is located at 6175 E. Kings Canyon, just past Fowler Avenue. It starts Tuesday, July 26th and goes through Friday, July 29th from 5:00 until 8pm. Dinner is from 5pm-6pm and it’s for the children as well as the adult volunteers. What a great opportunity for children to learn more about Jesus when He was their age, and what a great opportunity for adults to serve these children.
It’s been quite a couple years since SouthPoint Church has had Vacation Bible School, so we are excited to offer this “special” time in Jesus’ Home town. Six churches in Southeast Fresno (including SouthPoint) have joined together to offer “Home Town Nazareth”, this summer’s Vacation Bible School. There will be activities, lessons, meals, fun and the opportunity for your children to learn what it was like to live in Bible times, to know what Jesus was like when He was a kid and why people didn’t believe that Jesus was God’s Son. They will learn the answers to these questions and much more in “Hometown Nazareth”.
The kids will get to go to “the market place”and visit with those who would have been selling their wares, hear their stories, learn how different life was then. They will get to be a part of a tribe, and learn all about the “Twelve tribes of Israel”. Many of their activities will be geared at showing them first-hand what it looked like and felt like to be a child as Jesus was. When they read and learn about the stories in the bible they will have an experience to go with it! That is pretty awesome!
Invite your K-5th grade neighbor, friend, or relative, too! Space is limited, so it’s time now to plan for VBS “buddies”.
In order to present all of these things, stories and experiences to the kids…in living color….a lot of help is needed. Adult help! Security, set up, clean up, food prep, tribal leaders (teachers) market place workers, and pre-school teachers are all needed! In order to make this easy on the adults, you can have dinner at Vacation Bible School so that you don’t have to rush home and eat! (Wow!) If the adult workers have pre-school children there will be a special teaching time for them as well, so that you don’t need to find a babysitter. (Another Wow!) If you want to help with food prep, it can even be arranged for you to do it at a more convenient time! (Wow again, eh?!)
If you want to be involved, or have your children involved you can sign them up at SouthPoint Church. Put your name and what you want to do on the back of a connection card on Sunday and put the card in the offering basket at church Sunday morning. Leanna will call you back and get you all prepared. The last day for sign-ups is July 10th; but spaces are limited, so it is on a “first-come” registration. You can go to facebook.com/seFresnoVBS and LIKE the page to keep informed there as well. (We sure try to make things easy for you!) Don’t forget to register early! Even though the last day to sign up is Sunday, July 10th.
Vacation Bible School in “Home Town Nazareth” sounds like it will be quite the experience for your kids and lucky for you, unlike in biblical times you don’t have to ride a donkey to get there! (Ha!)
